I went to a cross country camp at Snoqualmie Pass (~3000 feet elevation). The running was great, as was the scenery. Runs included Lost Lake (my favorite), Snow Lake (actually a hike), Pacific Crest Trail, Snoqualmie Summit West (the ski runs–it’s an odd feeling running up a slope down which you’ve snowboarded), and others. Lots of hills. Sadly, I dislike dragging a camera around on runs, so I don’t have any pictures of my own. However, I found some photos online just to give you a taste of the environment (more pictures MAY come later).
The camp, although small, was blessed to have great staff and speakers, notably including Jessica Pixler (twelve time NCAA Division II champion in track and cross country), Greg Jimmerson (world cross country championship competitor), Mark Mandi (Northwest University cross country coach), and Alison Mandi (4th in Pac-10 during college), among others. As a Christian camp, spiritual development as well as physical development was emphasized through the speakers’ lectures and small group discussions. “Cabin time” was definitely a highlight.
Other activities included ice baths in the snowmelt-fed creek/river nearby the cabin, team competitions, around-the-world ping pong games, a bocce ball tournament, sitting by the campfire, showering outdoors (only the guys), and eating good food (we’re runners–what else?).
